Who am I? Well for starters, my name is David and I’m an Atlanta-based portrait and event photographer. I’m a Southern Yankee, a Boston native with the Southern charm acquired by living in Atlanta for over 20 years. Overall, my life is pretty normal so I won’t bore you with the details. I mean, does it really matter that I lived in Omaha for a few years as a child or that I went to Florida A&M, or that I’m a diehard Red Sox and Celtics fan. OK, so maybe the last part matters, but I’m sure what you’re most interested in is what inspired me to pick up a camera and why in the world I am still at it.
I can’t say that I knew from the time I was a child I knew I was destined to be a photographer; in fact, it was quite the opposite. I always appreciated great photography but I never saw myself as an artist. That’s not to say I never took pictures. My trusty Canon Snappy was my weapon of choice whenever I went on family vacations or to special events like weddings, birthday parties, etc. But what really stuck with me about taking pictures wasn’t so much capturing the moment, but looking at a photo and remembering the story behind it. Reminiscing over photographs from my parents’ albums and my own personal collections inspired me to want to take better pictures in order to better capture the moment and thus preserve a wonderful memory.
Fast-forward a few years and I’m the owner and operator of an exciting photography business. The same things that inspired me to take pictures as a teen still inspire me today, only now I have acquired skills and combined them with inspiration and experience to better capture the moment. And for me, that’s what photography is all about: capturing moments to create lasting memories.
